In honor of its 35th anniversary, Topco Sales announces company-wide 'Commitment to Green' initiatives. Recycling, water filtration, solar energy, RoHS, WEEE, and other ways of reducing Topco Sales' carbon footprint are all either being implemented or considered.

"As a leader in adult novelty manufacturing for 35 years, we now look ahead to the next 35 years - and beyond. We understand the importance of being environmentally conscious and the responsibility we have as one of the world's largest novelty manufacturers. Topco Sales' 'Commitment to Green' will help shed a positive light on the adult toy industry as a whole. It starts at the top and our efforts will benefit our distributors, online retailers, brick and mortar stores and ultimately the end-user," says Desiree Duffie, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Topco Sales.

Topco Sales Commitment to Green initiative includes the following:

Products manufactured by Topco Sales are dissembled and tested to meet RoHS and WEEE standards, ensuring their safety for the consumer and the environment.
  • Topco Sales has taken steps to remove PVC from trays and clams for the European market.
  • RoHS compliance is maintained through Topco Sales' Quality and Engineering Departments. Topco Sales tests every product internally with a 'state of the art' RoHS test system to ensure 100% compliance.
  • Products manufactured by Topco Sales are WEEE compliant, meaning restricted materials are eliminated and proper disposal of batteries and other components are not a waste stream burden.
  • Topco Sales recycles all cardboard.
  • Excess office and art department paper is shredded and properly disposed of or recycled for use in packing - Topco Sales is also taking measures to create a more paperless office.
  • All offices are stocked with recycle bins and employees are given incentives and rewards for their involvement with eco-conscious initiatives.
  • Topco Sales makes disposable clamshells and many clamshells are embossed with the rating grade stamp so they are easily sorted for recycling.
  • Topco Sales is equipped with a fluid waste clarifier which filters water so sewage meets or exceeds all local wastewater regulations. Toilets are tank-less direct flush for maximum water conservation.
  • Topco Sales prides itself in complying fully with all applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Excess materials are made available to secondary markets which recycle them into other useful products such as carpet padding and furniture stuffing.
  • Additionally Topco Sales recycles all outdated and non-functioning electronic equipment, including CRTs.
  • Topco Sales has switched all lights to fluorescent bulbs and those in low-traffic areas have sensors so they are only in use when needed.
  • For the future, Topco Sales is evaluating a combination solar energy system for power generation and water heating.
  • Topco Sales is completing an analysis of fluorescent tube disposal system to capture gases for proper disposal.
  • A battery recycling/disposal center is in development.
  • Topco Sales is proud that its CyberGlass is an eco-friendly product.
  • Packaging in 2009 will come with a recycling message to consumers urging them to use rechargeable batteries.
  • Recycled packaging is being considered for cosmetics.
  • An eco-friendly line of toys is in the works.
  • Scott Tucker, CEO of Topco Sales, rides his bicycle to and from work nearly every day and serves as a role model to all Topco Sales employees to be more environmentally aware.
"The Commitment to Green initiative is a natural extension of the other policies and procedures that we have spearheaded," says Scott Tucker, CEO of Topco Sales. "For example, we took the lead on RoHS and WEEE compliance long before they become mandatory. We are proud to be one of the only industry manufacturers to have an FDA registered laboratory. And now we forge the trail in our industry with our 'Commitment to Green'."
